BNI a Relationship Building Strategy

BNI or Business Networking International is truly a Relationship Building Strategy!

None of us really realize it but being a BNI member really puts us in the pilot seat with our hands on the control panel of a rocket ship that is ready to take off! It is how you mange that control panel that will determine how successful you will be. In my view, BNI is the only true form of networking because it naturally and unobtrusively allows us to develop relationships. To me all other forms of networking are drive by shooting because everyone in other networking environments are looking to get new business right now. And Guess why they are not getting that business right now…. Because they are selling!!! Revenue in BNI is purely appreciation and relationship driven.

In BNI it is certainly givers gain, but in order to be successful in BNI we need to take the givers gain philosophy one step further, because if we give with the intention of getting that likely will not work, but if we give with the true intent to give that to me is the secret sauce. Giving to give means giving without the expectation of getting in return. To me that is true intent to give! So how do we give? In order to give, you must become the Hub of your universe. What that means is that you must work toward developing a reputation that you are the resource to go to when people need something. If some product or service is not covered in this chapter, you have 40 people to ask if they know anyone who does provide that product or service. Or you can go to the BNI website and find someone who provides that product or service. As I see it you can clearly be the hub, the resource people go to when they need something.

Start with your friends, I tell them I know people who can do anything. You just let me know what you need and I will find the most reputable person to do it. I can find someone who can whip up a soufflé to someone who can design a replica of the Sistine chapel inside your house. And guess what…after Friday night we know even know Marina the Dancer. By the way, you can't tell them that you are a resource just once. You have to keep telling them. Then you go to your customer base, tell them the same thing. Tell them that, I just want to let you know that whatever resource you need for your business I can find it. When you start proving it, it's powerful. You become more valuable to your customer. You become the Hub of your universe. Everybody's go to person! And you are truly giving.

Business Relationships

I spoke to a client the other day and he was talking about a customer who he gave a significant discount to a few months ago. He explained how his staff made some mistakes on the job but how he in turn bent over backwards for this customer to correct the problems and mistakes and complete the job to the best of his ability. The customer told him that although he did make good on the mistakes that he thought a discount was in order. My client agreed and gave the customer a significant discount. A few months later my client found out that the customer he gave the significant discount to hired someone else to do another job that came up. My client was extremely disappointed and felt used as after all he went above and beyond normal expectations with this customer. My client understands that his staff made some errors but my client corrected them all.

I told my client that although he was upset and in some respects resentful to this customer there was still opportunity to reestablish this business relationship. That unless he truly never wanted to do business with this customer that he should keep communicating with the customer. It turns out that deep inside my client wants to get the customer back. I told my client to send the customer a greeting card to just say hello and thanking them for being a great customer. By sending a greeting card and by continuing to send a greeting card on a quarterly basis the customer will see the true sincerity in my client to reestablish a business relationship. A greeting card sent through regular mail shows that you care, that you took extra time to send a card and that the business relationship really means something.

Building Relationships with Greeting Cards

For those of you who are in business and who understand that communication equals wealth, there is a simple, powerful and inexpensive strategy to enhance business relationships. It is a strategy that is as old as the Roman Gladiators. It is called sending greeting cards.

Let me give you some of the ways that I have used Greeting cards to create and solidify relationships:

  • Congratulations cards for a sale of a business, promotions, big sales, business accomplishments or personal accomplishments (I once gave a colleague a congratulations card for climbing Mount Kilimanjaro.)
  • Thank you cards for a referral, for a meeting, for their business, a connection that might lead to a referral, a business favor or a personal favor.
  • Happy Birthday cards to business colleagues, to people who have given referrals and to business owners.

These are just some examples of how you can enhance your business relationships. You will stand out from the crowd. Many times I have been thanked for sending a simple card.

When I send cards I do not have to address them, stamp them, stuff them in an envelope or mail them. It is all done for me with a system called
Send Out Cards. To send free cards click the link below:

Traditional Ways of Sending Cards Online

You can still send out greeting cards the old fashioned way and still do it online. It is called SendOutCards and it is a personal greeting card system that has taken an Off Line technology such as greeting cards and put it online. Very similar to what Amazon did with books and NetFlix did with movies.

By sending cards out the traditional and "Old Fashioned Way" there is more meaning to the card and the recipient appreciates it more because it looks like you took the trouble to go out and get a card.

You can create your own cards, insert your own pictures, there is no printing, stuffing, sampling or mailing. That is all done for you. The best part is it is very cost effective. Once you have it you will send out cards all of the time and your recipients of your cards if they are loved ones will be touched and if they are business recipients they will be impressed.

Here are just some of the features:

1. You can add any pictures you want. I have added family pictures, action pictures, business cards, logos.

2. Size pictures to fit. The system comes with a photo shop type picture tool.

3. You can send a gift, including gift cards, chocolates, cookies , brownies and more

4. You can send postcards, two sided and even three sided cards

5. You can get reminders well in advance of important dates, like birthdays and anniversaries

6. There are thousands of templates to choose from or you can create your own cards

7. It is less expensive than buying cards in the store

8. Import large lists for bulk mailing

9. A Personal Handwriting font

10. Video tutorials on how to use the system.

So now you can Send Out Cards the old fashioned way online!
